The San Francisco 49ers are getting pretty thin when it comes to safety depth.
On Sunday, they lost starter Talanoa Hufanga for the season with a torn ACL.
On Thursday, the team faced more setbacks after top safety and special teams tight end George Odum left the game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Odum was injured on a special teams play in the second quarter when Seahawks DJ Dallas made a botched tackle.
Several players ran for the loose football and a 49ers safety was injured on the play.
The 49ers later ruled Odum out for the rest of the game with a forearm injury.
In his postgame press conference, coach Kyle Shanahan expressed concern that the injury could end his season.”
We’re going to check it tomorrow, but it’s probably broken,” Shanahan told reporters.
“Normally the season ends, but we don’t know if he can come back later. I think we’ll have to check tomorrow.”
Shanahan addressed the issue of not having Hufanga or Odum for the rest of the season and the possibility of a roster turnover: “Yeah, we have to do something because something had to be done.”
