Sad News From Philadelphia Phillies…..

Former Phillies slugger draws interest from Cubs

Considering the moves the Philadelphia Phillies need to make over the next few months, one of them is certain.

The front office has made it clear that Rhys Hoskins will not return. Earlier in the offseason, Dave Dombrowski said he discussed with Hoskins the decision to let Bryce Harper play first base in the future.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reported the following:“Dave Dombrowski said he spoke to Rhys Hoskins to tell him about the decision.

Harper will be the everyday first baseman (he won’t play right field) and the Phillies view Kyle Schwarber as the primary DH, so Hoskins essentially has no room to play.

With Hoskins aware of the situation, his camp is actively trying to find a suitor. Among these teams, the Chicago Cubs remain interested in signing the 30-year-old.

According to Jon Morosi, the Hoskins camp and the Cubs are in contact regarding a possible contract.» Sources: Cubs and Rhys Hoskins reps remain in contact regarding potential free agent deal.

Proposals for one-year and multi-year contracts were discussed. Not much is changing for the Phillies this offseason.

They could add an outfielder since Harper plays first base full time, but even that isn’t certain.

Dombrowski said he has confidence in this team and believes there are no weaknesses or glaring holes to fill following the signing of Aaron Nola.

Chicago could view Hoskins as someone who can make a difference for them coming off an injury.

As Philadelphia fans know, the right-handed slugger is someone who can hit 30+ home runs in a given season. When healthy, he is a good addition to any team. Copyright ABG-SI LLC.
