The Alabama Crimson Tide is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to gaining potential leads against the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Alabama is hiring former Michigan linebackers coach George Helow ahead of the Rose Bowl, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman and Kennington Smith III.
Helow, who was on Michigan’s staff in 2021 and 2022, will begin work with the Crimson Tide immediately.
Helow has a previous connection to Alabama, having joined Nick Saban’s staff as a defensive intern in 2012. However, the timing of the shutdown speaks for itself in many ways.
The Crimson Tide are likely hoping Helow can give them insight into Michigan’s defensive system as they prepare for the national semifinals, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Helow was Michigan’s linebackers coach for two years.
He left after the 2022 season and was replaced by Chris Partridge, who sat out the year at Michigan after being fired for interfering in the NCAA’s investigation into the program’s alleged sign theft .
