Kirk Cousins Injury Update: Vikings QB’s wife still hoping that he can make it back in time for the Super Bowl
The wife of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins seems inspired by Aaron Rodgers’ continued recovery from a fully torn left Achilles.
Cousins, who underwent surgery for a torn right Achilles he suffered in a game against the Packers in late October, explained why his wife, Julie, is holding out hope he could make a return to the field in February.
“I think Aaron [Rodgers’] injury was about eight weeks ahead of mine so that’s essentially two months,”
Cousins said during an interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday, referring to the Jets quarterback, who ruptured his left Achilles just four snaps into the season-opener in Sept.
The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback spoke of Rodgers after he was asked about his own recovery amid rumors that the former league MVP could return this season.
Cousins suffered his Achilles injury in the fourth quarter of a game against the Packers on Oct. 29, which Minnesota won, 24-10, at Lambeau Field.
While Rodgers suffered the injury in Week 1, there was a lot of chatter about him making a remarkable return to the field in time for the playoffs.
Seeing Rodgers” optimism about a potential return, Cousins said that his wife, Julie, thinks he can play this season.
Cousins told NFL reporter Adam Schefter recently that his wife is hopeful that he can play in the Super Bowl this season.
“My wife’s holding out hope that somehow, if Aaron can get back fast and then you add eight weeks — I’d be right there at the Super Bowl. This league’s crazy.”

“I do believe there”s probably my best football still up ahead of me,”
he said.
Cousins has been consistent over the years in saying that he”d love to spend the rest of his career with the Vikings.
“I would love to be back in Minnesota,”
The Vikings might also want Cousins back, but it”ll come down to the price that he”s looking for in negotiations as a free agent.
Three days after the injury, Cousins underwent surgery in Minnesota. Eventually, he moved into a walking boot and started getting back into the Vikings” facility for rehab.
These days, Cousins is walking gingerly and feels like he”s ahead of schedule in his rehab.
“The next time I meet with the surgeon will probably be late January, early February, and he expects that to be making the transition from walking to jogging,”
Cousins said he reached out to Aaron Rodgers, who famously tore his Achilles very early into the Jets” season opener this year, just a couple days after his own injury.
Cousins” injury happening roughly seven weeks later meant there was never a chance he could play again in 2023, but that hasn”t stopped his wife Julie from holding out hope that he could play in the Super Bowl if the Vikings get there.
“I said to my wife, well, if they make it to the Super Bowl without me, they”re probably not going to want to play me in that game,”
Cousins said, laughing.
Amidst the hype surrounding the potential return of former MVP Aaron Rodgers despite the New York Jets’ elimination, Minnesota Vikings also seem hopeful for the return of their star quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Interestingly, if they do so, there is a high chance that the team will have the four-time Pro Bowler Cousins with them.

But this season, his record broke and he hasn’t stood foot on the ground since week 8, after suffering the Achilles injury.
Given that, Cousins is still adjusting to missing NFL games with an ongoing season.
In the podcast, Cousins also shared,
“It just kind of hit me that, even in the short term, this was going to be very, very different for the last eight, nine weeks of the regular season,”
expressing the difficulties and the feeling out of place, even though he is at the right place.
In the absence of QB Cousins, the Vikings have just managed to stay in the NFC playoff race with a 3-3 record, with three more games remaining in the season.
