Two former Alabama high school standouts who played their collegeTwo more Auburn graduates have been signed by NFL teams to play football at Auburn are eligible to play this weekend in the NFL after Friday transactions.
The Cincinnati Bengals elevated wide receiver Shedrick Jackson from their practice squad to make him eligible for Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Tennessee Titans signed defensive tackle Marlon Davidson from their practice squad to their 53-player active roster ahead of their game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad to active status for each game, and that has happened to Jackson and Davidson twice already this season.
Jackson was on the field for five offensive snaps and 22 special-teams plays against the Houston Texans on Nov. 12 and Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 16. The rookie is up for Saturday’s game with wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase ruled out because of a shoulder injury.
Davidson appeared in Tennessee’s past two games as a practice-squad elevation. He played 56 snaps in the two games and recorded a sack in Sunday’s 19-16 overtime loss to the Houston Texans
Davidson filled the vacancy on the active roster created when the Titans placed safety Amani Hooker on injured reserve on Friday.
Jackson prepped at Hoover, and Davidson played at Greenville.
Another former Alabama high school standout will be eligible to play for the Bengals on Saturday after starting the week with the Atlanta Falcons.
Cincinnati was awarded defensive tackle Travis Bell as a waiver claim.
Bell prepped at Jeff Davis (now J.A.G.) in Montgomery before becoming the first NFL draft pick from Kennesaw State on April 29. After joining Chicago as a seventh-round selection, Bell spent the first eight weeks of the season on the Bears’ practice squad before Atlanta signed him.
Bell played 30 Alabama snaps in the Falcons’ past two games before Atlanta waived him on Tuesday.
The Bengals and Steelers square off at 3:30 p.m. CST Saturday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. NBC will televise the game.
The Titans and Seattle Seahawks meet at noon Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
