Metro Detroit realtor offers 1,000 Lions fans chance to ditch Stafford jerseys
ALLEN PARK — Businesses in the Detroit and surrounding suburbs are having some fun with the talk surrounding Matthew Stafford’s return to Ford Field.
One bar in Detroit’s Eastern Market district won’t allow anyone in their establishment wearing a Stafford Lions jersey during the game Sunday night. And a Metro Detroit realtor is taking that to another level, offering 1,000 fans the opportunity to swap their Stafford jerseys prior to the wild-card showdown.
Glover Agency’s trade-in event will happen this Friday morning and afternoon (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at Twin Peaks restaurant in Livonia.
“Lions fans with Stafford Jerseys at home will have an opportunity to turn in their gently used, freshly washed jerseys in exchange for a Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown or Aidan Hutchinson jersey,” a new release from the agency reads.
“I purchased mostly Goff jerseys because we need to get behind the QB that is poised to take us all the way and it just seemed right to trade QB for QB, although the first few hundred fans will get to pick from one of the three.”
The Lions will host Stafford and the Rams in prime-time action from Ford Field. It’s the first home playoff game for the division-winning Lions in 30 years, not to mention the first for Ford Field in the 22-years of use.
This playoff game also pits Jared Goff against his old head coach, Sean McVay, and Lions general manager Brad Holmes will get the opportunity to flex his roster-building muscle against his mentor in Rams general manager Les Snead.
The juicy storylines are seemingly endless to open the postseason, with Stafford’s return to the city he bled for across 12 years the cherry on top.
“Excited. I’m excited. I think it’s a great setup. It’s good to be able to host a playoff game here against those guys,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said to open the week. “This is a team that’s got a number of players that have been to the Super Bowl over there. They’ve been it. This head coach has done an outstanding job with them. And they’re a hot team. I think it’s good.
“And it’s also, look, it’s a fresh team. It’s somebody we haven’t seen in three years. I like that. I just kinda like the newness of it. Man, this is when it gets — it’s been fun — but this is when it gets really fun. This is why you do it. This is why you coach. This is why you play. It’s for these moments right here.”
