Everton ready to let Arnaut Danjuma quit, Lyon transfer agreed in January
Everton are prepared to cut their losses with loanee Arnaut Danjuma as the player has agreed to join Lyon in Ligue 1, according to HITC.
The website reported [24 January] that the Dutchman will be allowed to leave Goodison Park amid a poor loan spell at the club so far, with Danjuma already agreeing his next move.
The Villarreal winger arrived at Everton on loan in the summer, joining on a season-long deal. However, Danjuma has failed to impress so far, making just eight starts in all competitions under Sean Dyche.
It would be fair to say that Danjuma’s spell in England has not been a positive one, following on from a below-average loan deal with Tottenham Hotspur. This has come as a surprise to most, considering his stellar career in Spain and previous experience in England.
It just has not worked out, though, and Everton need to cut their losses before they lose more money on a player who is mostly sitting on the bench.
The 26-year-old is clearly a talented player, scoring 22 goals in 51 appearances for his Spanish parent club following a move from Bournemouth. With Dwight McNeil, Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure pushing him down the pecking order, he has experienced little time on the pitch.
Capable of playing anywhere in the final third, from attacking midfielder to winger, to centre-forward, it was expected that Danjuma would be able to replace Dyche’s favoured players when they need a rest, or even be an impact substitution when chasing a win.
However, with just two goals in 18 matches for Everton, Danjuma has failed to stamp his mark on the team as was hoped. The Toffees would be much better saving their funds than paying his wage for the next six months, which could also make way for a new January signing amid battles with FFP worries.
