The 49ers have the best starting quarterback value in the NFL in Brock Purdy. The No. 262 overall seventh-round pick from the 2022 draft has gone from a “Mr. Irrelevant” developmental flier to executing at a high level in San Francisco’s elite offense.
For now, the 49ers are reaping the benefits of a bargain-basement rookie contract, but after next season, they will need to think about extending Purdy with a deal that is more in line with his worth near the top of QB market.
Here’s looking at how much Purdy is making now to get an idea of his future second contract, no doubt with a massive raise:

The 49ers didn’t risk trying to sign Purdy as an undrafted free agent with some competition. They showed some faith in his potential by signing him to a four-year, $3,737,008 million contract. He received only $77,008 million guaranteed in the form of his signing bonus, also broken down into $19,252 million per season.
Purdy’s current average annual salary works out to be $934,252. In 2022, his rookie season, he made $724,252 in base salary. That went up to $870,000 for ’23, and it will rise to $985,000 for ’24.
Purdy is set to finally make more than a million in base salary for a season, as he’s due $1.1 million in the final year of his contract in ’25. Because the 49ers can extend him as early as a year from now, he probably will earn much more than that for the ’25 regular season.
Those base salary numbers above don’t include the standard individual bonuses for team playoff success, including getting to two consecutive conference championship games.
There’s more in store for Purdy for 2023-’24 with his Pro Bowl nod and Super Bowl shot, and he has a chance to maximize that money should the NFC and 49ers win those respective games.
Purdy’s play also has merited some NFL-based performance bonuses, and his earning power is further boosted off the field as the fresh face of the 49ers franchise.
Should Purdy keep performing well as the 49ers’ starter next season, he can expect a big bump through a lucrative extension, with all that extra money he’s getting now becoming a relative pittance.

When Purdy becomes eligible for an extension early in 2025, the QB market may not see much change. The next high first-rounder due for a second contract is the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence, taken No. 1 overall in the 2021 draft.
From the same class, Zach Wilson, former 49er Trey Lance, and Mac Jones won’t be getting big money, and it’s also unlikely Justin Fields will break the bank.
