Cowboys tie-up for 2025 has already begun, with Mike McCarthy (right) in the final year of his contract.
It certainly seems like a long shot that legendary coach Bill Belichick, one of only three coaches with 300 wins and just 27 victories short of surpassing Don Shula as the greatest in NFL history, will coach again in 2024.
Belichick and the New England Patriots have agreed to part ways earlier this month after a miserable 4-13 season, and despite coming close to Atlanta, Belichick was ultimately not hired and has no further interviews.
But he was linked to the Dallas Cowboys after their first-round playoff flop, which ended in a loss to the Packers.
And at this week’s Senior Bowl, team owner Jerry Jones said he sees no obstacles to working with Belichick in the future — a surprising statement considering Jones really likes to be in control, and Belichick just as much.
I like control. According to reports, it was the control over decisions surrounding the team that ultimately led the Falcons to pass on hiring Belichick.
That wouldn’t be a problem in Dallas. “I know him personally and I like him,” Jones told Yahoo Sports. “I have no doubt that we could work together. NO. NO.”

Jones waited three days before it was finally confirmed that the team’s current head coach, Mike McCarthy, would be returning for his fifth season with the Cowboys. It’s worth noting that McCarthy is in the final year of his contract in Dallas.
