Adou Thiero has been a surprise scratch in each of the Kentucky Wildcats’ last two games, including Saturday’s narrow win at Florida.
Kentucky is calling the injury “general soreness” and has Thiero listed as day-to-day, even though he hasn’t played since December 21st at Louisville.
It appears Thiero is, at best, highly questionable to play Tuesday night when Kentucky hosts Missouri, as he failed to practice on Monday, according to head coach John Calipari.
“He did not practice today. It’s still day-to-day stuff,” Calipari said on his Monday call-in show.
Given Cal’s history of being very…we’ll say unforthcoming about injuries, you have to wonder if this really is a minor thing or if it’s something that’s a little more serious.
For what it’s worth, when Kentucky was in Atlanta for the CBS Sports Classic game vs. North Carolina, Thiero’s father told Kyle Tucker that his son was dealing with back spasms. That game was on December 16th, so this has apparently been an issue for several weeks now.
Here’s to hoping for a speedy recovery for Thiero. While he may not be lighting up box scores, there’s no question Kentucky needs his physicality and versatility to keep winning in what’s going to be a grueling marathon of an SEC schedule.
