Emi Martínez release clause in new Aston Villa contract – insider
Bryan King has speculated that a release clause might have been included in Emiliano Martínez’s brand-new Aston Villa contract.
The ex-Villa scout believes the 31-year-old will be keen to move back to Argentina before finishing his career.
As confirmed via the club’s official website (21 August), Martínez has signed a brand-new long-term contract, extending his stay with Aston Villa until 2029.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – claims this is a reassuring boost for Unai Emery.
“I’m not surprised that he has signed this deal,” King said.
“Players can still be sold even though they’re under contract, contracts can also be terminated by clubs. However, I think this is a good move for Villa.
“They’ve got a decent goalkeeper now for the next five years. After all the upset surrounding him not being able to play at the Olympics, I think it just goes to show that he was making waves and Villa weren’t going to fall for that.
“He’s been rewarded for his form over the past few years with a brand-new deal, and that is reassuring for Emery and the club’s supporters.
“There is a possibility that a release clause has been included in the contract. I am sure at some point he would like to end his career in Argentina, it is just a matter of when.”

Supporters would have no doubt been delighted to read that Martínez had signed a brand-new deal at Villa Park.
It is a long-term contract, which will further please supporters. However, it is worth noting that this doesn’t necessarily mean the goalkeeper will remain with the club for the length of that contract.
A release clause may well have been included, or the player could perhaps grow unhappy and force a move away at some point in the coming years.
