Eisen, a noted New York Jets fan, called Gang Green’s 23-17 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. The longtime radio host regularly works London games for the NFL Network, but fans thought his rooting allegiances created a conflict of interest in the booth.
“Why is Rich Eisen commentating?” a Vikings fan asked on social media. He’s literally a renowned Jets fan.”
“The NFL Network really thought it was a good idea to let Jet fanboy Rich Eisen call a Jets game?” another fan wondered.
“Really nice of NFL Network to let the Jets have a home broadcast today with Rich Eisen calling the game,” FanSided’s Adam Patrick quipped.
“Eisen was terrible and patently pro Jets the entire game,” a fan claimed.
“I don’t see how NFL Network can send Rich Eisen to call the Jets game when he’s openly admitted to being a Jets fan,” Patrick Nohe said. “I miss back when you didn’t know who the talking heads on the sports channels rooted for. They used to keep that to themselves.”
Then again, few people are harder on the Jets than fans who have spent years watching the Jets.
Eisen couldn’t paint a positive picture of his favorite team as they fell to 2-3. Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions, and they mustered just 36 yards on the ground.
Perhaps Eisen was sending a message about his experience across the pond when making puns during an Oasis singalong at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
“Back in London, where the Vikings have been the wonder, and the Jets have been the wall … If the Jets don’t score soon, some of their fans who flew all the way over here are going to look back in anger at their travel bill.”
