Texas Women’s Basketball took on the Auburn Tigers tonight. After losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, it would be interesting to see how the team responded to their performance.
The one player everyone had eyes on tonight was Madison Booker. She was outstanding in the 74-57 win over the Tigers tonight as Texas begins another win streak. Booker would finish with 22 points tonight. I was also glad to see Rori Harmon finish with 20 points.
I was shocked when I looked at the score sheet and saw the three Texas freshmen only scored four points combined tonight. After the season they had so far coming into this game. I figured they would have contributed more to Texas’s final score.
The freshmen learned that you won’t score a lot in some games. Sometimes, your contribution to the game will come in small ways that help the team win. Here are the three takeaways from tonight’s win over Auburn.
Takeaways from Texas Women’s Basketball’s win over Auburn: 3. Madison Booker had a bounce back game
After having a terrible game this past Sunday, Booker needed to have a performance to get her back on track this season. A 22-point performance while being the leading scorer for the team will do that. Booker has had a “semi” Sophomore slump.
She’s done well in many games this season while not performing well in others. I hope this game will carry over into Monday night when they take on the Maryland Terrapins. I hope she gets some rest and continues to excel this season.
2. Turnovers were high tonight
Even though the Longhorns won tonight’s game, their turnovers must decrease. The Longhorns finished with 17 turnovers against the Tigers tonight.
Even though the Longhorns turned the ball over a lot, I was happy they stayed composed and didn’t let it phase them. Maryland is a tough team this season and has done well forcing turnovers. This will be a key stat in Monday’s game against the Terrapins.
Justice Carlton, Bryanna Preston, and Jordan Lee had one of those games tonight where they weren’t a factor on offense.
Sometimes, college basketball players have those nights when their shots don’t score, which can be frustrating. I’m glad to see they helped out the team on defense and helped the team beat the Tigers tonight.
They will play plenty of games in their career where they can be a factor on the offensive end of the court. The Longhorns take on the Terrapins on Monday night.
