Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny. The 18-year-old has joined the Spurs academy and penned a three-year contract.

Russell-Denny, recognised as one of the most talented youngsters coming through at Cobham, has scored three goals in nine Premier League 2 matches for Chelsea Under 21s this season.

However, he had failed to start any of the young Blues’ last three league matches, with his most recent appearance coming off the bench against Southampton on Friday, January 24.

On the international stage, Russell-Denny represented England at the Under-17 World Cup in November 2023 and has since played for the Young Lions at Under-18 and Under-19 levels.

In total, Russell-Denny played 54 times for Chelsea’s Under 18s or Under 21s age groups, scoring nine times and adding 11 assists. A versatile midfielder that can be used as the No. 6 or further forward, Russell-Denny has a bright future ahead of him, and Spurs have now captured his signature.

He is expected to go straight into Tottenham’s Under 21s squad for the remainder of the season with a view of promoting him into the first team. Spurs are next in Premier League 2 action when they travel to face Manchester United on Friday, February 7, meaning Russell-Denny could make his debut then.

Tottenham have endured a difficult 2024/25 Premier League 2 campaign thus far, winning just four of their 13 matches. However, the impact of several players having been called up to Ange Postecoglou’s first team has been told, with no fewer than five academy graduates on the bench against Brentford on Sunday.
