UNC Makes Historic Announcement After ACC Tournament Win Over Notre Dame

The North Carolina Tar Heels kept their 2024-25 season alive with an ACC Tournament victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday afternoon.

Hubert Davis’ squad cruised to victory at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center, notching a 76-56 final score as the tournament’s No. 5 seed.

The Tar Heels were led by a historic performance senior forward Jae’Lyn Withers, who recorded a career-high 21 points. The Charlotte native shot 7-10 from behind the three-point arc.

Withers’ seven three-point makes mark the most by any North Carolina player in ACC Tournament history.

“Career-high 21 points @jaelynwithers AND UNC Record: 7 threes in an ACC Tournament game,” UNC Basketball wrote in an announcement on X after the final whistle blew.

Withers has really found his stride in the latter half of the Tar Heels’ 2024-25 season. The former Louisville transfer played an integral role in North Carolina’s 6-1 finish to the regular season.

North Carolina is currently the “First Team Out” according to ESPN veteran bracket analyst Joe Lunardi. The Tar Heels will need to keep winning if they want to improve their chances of making the NCAA Tournament field.

With Wednesday’s win over Notre Dame, UNC advances to face off against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. That matchup against the tournament’s No. 4 seed will tipoff at 2:30 p.m. EST on Thursday.

If the Tar Heels can beat Wake Forest, they’ll matchup against the No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils for a rivalry rematch in the semifinals.
