Columbus, OH – Ohio State has added a game-changing piece to its 2025 recruiting class, securing a commitment from four-star safety Faheem Delane, one of the nation’s most sought-after defensive backs. Delane, ranked as the No. 1 player in Maryland, the No. 4 safety, and the No. 31 overall prospect in the country, made his decision official today, choosing the Buckeyes over a stacked list of powerhouse programs.
Buckeyes Win Heated Recruiting Battle
The 6-foot-2, 184-pound standout from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School (Olney, MD) had no shortage of elite options, holding around 30 scholarship offers from schools such as Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, LSU, USC, and Florida State, among others. Prior to his commitment, Delane had planned visits to Oregon (June 14) and LSU (June 21) after an official visit to Maryland on May 31 and a previous trip to Virginia Tech in April.
Despite the fierce competition, Ohio State’s coaching staff, led by head coach Ryan Day, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, cornerbacks coach Tim Walton, and safeties coach Matt Guerrieri, made an undeniable impression on Delane throughout his recruitment. He has taken multiple unofficial visits to Columbus, solidifying his connection with the program before making his final decision.
Impact Player for the Buckeyes’ Defense
Delane has built a reputation as a hard-hitting, aggressive safety with elite instincts and versatility. He played a pivotal role in Good Counsel’s 10-1 season and WCAC championship victory in 2023, earning first-team All-Conference honors while making an impact on both defense and special teams.
A dynamic playmaker in the secondary, Delane brings physicality, range, and leadership—traits that will bolster Ohio State’s already elite defensive unit. His ability to excel in man coverage, zone schemes, and run support makes him an immediate asset for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State’s 2025 Class Continues to Dominate
With Delane’s commitment, Ohio State now has 14 recruits in its 2025 class, all of whom are rated as four-star or five-star prospects. As of today, the Buckeyes rank second nationally in the recruiting rankings, trailing only Notre Dame.
Delane will continue to showcase his skills at the 2024 Rivals Five-Star event (June 25-26) in Jacksonville, after previously competing in the Rivals Camp Series in Atlanta in April.
