Tuesday night, officers with the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traffic accident on Thinwood Drive off West Highway 25/70. A 15-year-old and 19-year-old were killed as a result of the crash, Sheriff CJ Ball shared on Wednesday.
“We are all devastated for the families involved. Our community will come together for these families and do whatever we can to help them in this time of need. Everyone involved needs the prayers to lift them up during this tragedy that has taken place,” said Ball.
On Thursday, a Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report stated the 19-year-old was driving along Thinwood Drive approaching the intersection of U.S. Highway 25/70. While negotiating a curve, the 2019 Kia Forte left the road to the left and struck a parked semi trailer, the report stated. The two teens were the only individuals involved in the crash.
The Cocke County School System also shared a statement following the crash.
