Detroit, MI — The NFL Draft buzz just got louder in Detroit.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell made headlines on Sunday with a bold declaration that has fans and analysts buzzing: he’s ready to make Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders his top draft pick.

“I’m ready to draft him as my number one,” Campbell said during a pre-draft press availability. “The kid’s got fire, leadership, poise — everything you want in a franchise quarterback. He’s built for Detroit.”

Shedeur Sanders, son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has been one of the most talked-about prospects heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Known for his composure in the pocket, elite arm talent, and high football IQ, Sanders has impressed scouts and elevated Colorado’s program under the guidance of his father.

While the Lions currently have veteran quarterback Jared Goff under center, Campbell’s statement signals a potential shift toward the future — and possibly a blockbuster draft move.

“Goff’s our guy,” Campbell clarified, “but when you see a generational talent like Shedeur, you don’t ignore it. You prepare for what’s next.”

With Detroit positioned as a rising powerhouse in the NFC, the addition of a high-ceiling quarterback like Sanders could further solidify the franchise’s long-term trajectory.

The NFL Draft begins later this month, and now all eyes are on the Lions’ war room.
