BREAKING: Raiders HC Pete Carroll Confirms Major Team Shake-Up — Secondary Still Under Construction

Las Vegas, NV – April 14, 2025

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll isn’t sugarcoating it — big changes are underway, and more are coming.

In a candid press conference this morning, Carroll confirmed a significant roster shake-up is in motion as the team retools key areas ahead of training camp. The most pressing need? Cornerback.

“We’re not done yet,” Carroll said. “There’s still work to do in the secondary, especially at corner. We need to tighten things up back there if we want to compete in this division.”

The Raiders recently signed former Packers CB Eric Stokes, a talented but injury-prone player who has missed 23 games over the past two seasons. The staff is hopeful his best football is still ahead of him — but Carroll made it clear that one signing won’t be enough.

The departure of slot corner Nate Hobbs to the Green Bay Packers has left a hole at nickel, and the Raiders are eyeing several veterans to fill it. Mike Hilton, who spent four years in Cincinnati, is a top target. Known for his slot coverage skills and ability to pressure the quarterback, Hilton logged 73 tackles and five pass deflections last season, plus eight pressures — a rare stat line for a defensive back.

But Las Vegas may not stop at the slot.

Veteran outside corner Rasul Douglas, who boasts 19 career interceptions, is firmly on the team’s radar. Asante Samuel Jr., although coming off an injury-plagued year with the Chargers, is another potential addition. Despite playing only four games in 2024, Samuel has proven ability when healthy — with six interceptions and 37 passes defended in 50 career games.

The Raiders know what’s at stake in the high-powered AFC West, and Carroll’s message is crystal clear: the rebuild of the secondary isn’t over — it’s just getting started.

Stay tuned. More moves could come any day.
