Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback, is on the verge of securing a significant contract extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

While the exact terms are still under negotiation, reports indicate that the 49ers are considering a substantial offer to retain Purdy as their franchise quarterback.

Contract Negotiations and Market Value

Purdy’s current contract, valued at $5.3 million for the 2025 season, is below market value, with 34 quarterbacks earning more.

General Manager John Lynch has expressed optimism about reaching an agreement but has indicated that a deal may not be imminent. Purdy has expressed a preference to finalize the contract before the 49ers’ offseason program begins on April 21

Reports suggest that Purdy is seeking a contract extension in the range of $50–$55 million per year, potentially placing him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

While a deal comparable to Dak Prescott’s $60 million annual salary may be unlikely, Purdy is expected to secure a significant pay increase

Potential Contract Structure

Speculative reports have outlined a possible contract structure for Purdy, proposing a 6-year, $326.1 million deal with $170 million guaranteed at signing.

This hypothetical contract would include a $50 million signing bonus and escalating base salaries, culminating in a $75.455 million base salary in the final year.

However, it’s important to note that these figures are speculative and have not been confirmed by the 49ers or Purdy’s representatives

Team Commitment and Future Outlook

Despite a challenging 2024 season marked by injuries and roster changes, the 49ers remain committed to Purdy as their long-term quarterback.

Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has expressed confidence in Purdy’s abilities, stating, “I’ve loved these three years with Brock.

I plan on being with Brock here the whole time I’m here.” Teammates, including running back Christian McCaffrey, have also voiced their support, highlighting Purdy’s leadership and performance under pressure

As the 49ers approach the 2025 season, securing a contract extension with Purdy appears to be a priority. The outcome of these negotiations will have significant implications for the team’s salary cap and roster construction in the coming years.
