The Minnesota Vikings have announced their 2025 undrafted free agent (UDFA) class, and it includes several intriguing names, including a familiar face to local fans. Among the 14 signings is former University of Minnesota quarterback Cole Kramer, who brings leadership and a deep knowledge of the regional football culture.
Kramer, who served as a backup for much of his college career, showed flashes of potential in limited action with the Gophers. While not expected to push for a starting role, his presence offers depth and a developmental option at quarterback.
In an effort to bolster their receiving corps, the Vikings signed four wide receivers, each bringing a unique skill set. Jordan Whittington (Texas) stands out with his blend of size and route-running ability. Tyrell Shavers (San Diego State), a 6-foot-6 red-zone target, adds size and athleticism. Slot specialist Zakhari Franklin (Ole Miss) and speedster D.J. Matthews Jr. (Indiana) round out the group, giving Minnesota options to compete in camp and push for special teams or practice squad roles.
Defensively, the Vikings added two cornerbacks—Storm Duck (Louisville) and Qwan’tez Stiggers (CFL/Toronto Argonauts). Duck, once a standout at North Carolina, transferred for his final year and impressed scouts with his physical play and awareness. Stiggers is a particularly interesting addition, having gone undrafted after a breakout season in the CFL, where he earned All-Star honors.
The Vikings’ UDFA class reflects a focus on versatility and potential upside. While the majority of these players face an uphill climb to make the final roster, history has shown that undrafted talent can become valuable contributors. The 2025 group will look to follow in the footsteps of past Vikings UDFAs like Adam Thielen and C.J. Ham, who carved out significant roles after being overlooked in the draft.
Training camp and preseason action will be the proving ground, as these rookies aim to turn opportunity into a permanent NFL job.
