Many questioned the Giants’ choice to re-sign Jones, as he hadn’t really ever lived up to the expectations that were given to him when the team selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Unsurprisingly, Jones didn’t perform well in 2023, and now New York is having second thoughts about him as their starting quarterback.
He will likely remain with the Giants for at least one more season, but in the meantime, the team is scouting some of the top passing prospects in this year’s draft, and former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is reportedly someone who recently made a “strong impression” on New York, according to the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy on Friday
Currently, the Giants have the No. 6 pick in the opening round of this year’s NFL Draft, and it’s possible that McCarthy could still be available when it comes time for them to make their first selection.
However, McCarthy’s draft stock has been skyrocketing during the last few weeks, and some believe New York might actually have to trade up in the first round if he is the guy they truly want to end up with.
