    Among the “couple” colleges still pushing KJ Lacey ………….

    Auburn continues to look for a 2025 quarterback and while a lot of focus has been on Husan Longstreet and Julian “JuJu” Lewis recently, Texas commit KJ Lacey has long been a name on Auburn’s board, visiting frequently despite his commitment to the Longhorns.

    The Top247 signal-caller from Saraland (Ala.) logged another visit to the Plains on Saturday, driving up with his family and watching the Tigers’ second spring scrimmage.

    Currently an unranked recruit in the Class of 2025, Auburn thinks much differently of Herbert Scroggins. Nicknamed “Third,” the edge rusher from Benedictine Military School (Ga.) was on campus for the first time on Saturday.

    That included getting to sit down and learn more about the buck linebacker position with Josh Aldridge, watch the Tigers practice and get a feel for campus.

    The NCAA Tournament provided its share of surprises and disappointments during the first three rounds of March Madness. As NC State and Clemson made unexpected runs to the Elite Eight, two 1-seeds got knocked out in the Sweet 16, and several other high seeds had their Tournament runs meet early and disappointing endings.

    This postseason didn’t provide the heavy-hitting upsets that March Madness fans have become accustomed to, but it still produced several shocking results. This is the first NCAA Tournament since 2019 in which a one or two seed didn’t fall in the first round. However, Kentucky lost to 14-seed Oakland, marking just the third loss by a three-seed in the first round since 2016.

    Another SEC powerhouse went out early as 13-seed Yale stunned 4-seed Auburn. The Tigers were coming off an SEC Tournament championship victory and were looking to make it past the first weekend for the first time since 2018-19.

    BYU earned its second bid to the NCAA Tournament in the last nine years but suffered the third-worst upset of March Madness, losing to 11-seed Duquesne as a 10.5-point favorite. The Cougars blew its best chance to make it past the first round since 2013-14 and Mark Pope has a host of questions to answer this offseason. Three of BYU’s five leading scorers are seniors, and others could opt to move on in the transfer portal.

    Houston entered the NCAA Tournament with the second-best odds to win the national championship. The Cougars looked as advertised in the first two rounds, with wins over Longwood and Texas A&M, but Duke snuffed out their Final Four dreams in the Sweet 16. Houston entered its matchup with the Blue Devils as a 4.5-point favorite but lost Naismith Player of the Year finalist Jamal Shead to an ankle injury in the first half. It’s likely Kelvin Sampson’s crew would have been still dancing had Shead not gone down.

    Second-year head coach Lamont Paris led the greatest single-season turnaround in program history this year, as South Carolina set a record for regular-season wins with 25. The Gamecocks earned a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament, their highest since 1997-98, but entered their first-round matchup against 11-seed Oregon as an underdog. The Ducks throttled South Carolina 87-73, ending Paris’Paris’ breakout year on a low note. Creighton thumped Oregon by 13 in the Round of 32.

    Few expected Florida to actually mount a deep NCAA Tournament run this postseason. Still, a chance to make it past the first weekend seemed possible after the Gators ripped off three straight wins, including a 14-point win over Final Four team Alabama, to end the regular season. The 19-point loss to Auburn in the first round of the SEC Tournament raised concerns that were ultimately founded in the upset loss to Colorado in the first round. Florida hasn’t made it past the first weekend since 2016-17.

    Auburn’s first-round loss to 13-seed Yale ranks among the biggest upsets of the NCAA Tournament and foreshadowed a disappointing March Madness for the SEC. The Tigers entered the postseason tied for the tenth-best odds to cut down the nets but haven’t made it past the first weekend since their Final Four run in 2018-19. The SEC Tournament champion had pieces to make a deep Tournament run but had no answer for Yale guard John Poulakidas, who poured in a game-high 28 points as the Bulldogs rallied back from a 10-point deficit.

    Kansas entered the season among the favorites to win the national championship this spring but battled injuries and never quite lived up to the hype during the regular season. Remaining hope that Bill Self could lead his team on an improbable NCAA Tournament run was snuffed out when the team announced Kevin McCullar Jr. would miss the entirety of the postseason with an injury before the first round. The Jayhawks survived an upset bid from Samford in the first round but imploded in the second, suffering a 21-point loss to Gonzaga.

    Kentucky’s first-round loss to 14-seed Oakland is the biggest upset of the NCAA Tournament this year and was the latest in a recent string of disappointing postseasons under head coach John Calipari. The Wildcats have won just one game in March Madness since 2019 and have suffered two losses to double-digit seeds in the last three years. Veteran Antonio Reeves led a talented group of freshmen for the Wildcats, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough to overcome Jack Gohkle’s 10 three-pointers in the first round.

    North Carolina was a trendy Final Four pick after winning eight of its last nine games in the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels impressed in the first two rounds but ran out of steam against Alabama in the Sweet 16 as RJ Davis had his worst game of the season. The season still goes down as a success for UNC after missing the Tournament entirely last season, but Tar Heel fans would be lying if they said it didn’t sting to see three ACC teams advance to the Elite Eight, including rivals NC State and Duke.
