Kentucky’s 51-13 loss to Georgia was frustrating and demoralizing on many levels; however, the lasting impact of it could be even worse. Five Wildcats had to leave tonight’s game due to injury, which is not exactly ideal as the Cats stare down the second half of the schedule.
Barion Brown was dealing with a hamstring issue prior to the game but played the first two quarters, totaling one reception for seven yards on four targets. After halftime, he was listed as questionable to return and did not. In other news at wide receiver, Tayvion Robinson, who was also dealing with an injury prior to the game, played, finishing with two catches for nine yards.
Safety Jalen Geiger injured his elbow in the second quarter and was ruled out. He was spotted on the sideline in a sling. In the second half, we got more bad news. Defensive lineman Keeshawn Silver AND linebacker Trevin Wallace both suffered shoulder injuries. Silver was ruled out. Wallace, Kentucky’s second-leading tackler, was listed as questionable and did not return. As with Brown, I’m sure the lopsided score had something to do with that.
If all of that wasn’t bad enough, freshman tight end Khamari Anderson left the game with just over a minute to go. Left guard Kenneth Horsey, who has missed four games due to injury, did not play.
“We had some guys that were hurting going into the game and some guys that were hurt throughout the game,” Mark Stoops said afterward. “We’re going into game seven next week, so it’s tough.”
Kentucky faces No. 21 Missouri next Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Thankfully, the Cats have a bye week after that — which is clearly needed — but waiting are games vs. No. 22 Tennessee, Mississippi State, No. 11
In just over a week, the spring transfer portal window will arrive and that will take up most of the oxygen in the college football space. Every program will get one final opportunity to address its personnel before 2024 rosters get locked in. Kentucky is expected to be an active shopper will the next free agency window arrives.
The Wildcats will likely make some transfer portal moves, but high school recruiting never stops. Kentucky received some positive news at wide receiver regarding a pair of targets on Thursday.
In February, Kentucky appeared in the top eight for three-star prospect Dejerrian Miller. On Thursday, the East St. Louis (Ill.) Cardinal Ritter junior took an unofficial visit to Kentucky. Later that day, KSR+’s Jacob Polacheck reported that Kentucky would host four-star wideout Cameron Miller for an official visit in the second weekend of June. Developments are happening on the trail.
