SAD NEWS : North Carolina Tar Heels player RJ Davis is suspended …
Davis joins RJ Barrett of Duke, who won the award in 2019, as the only other ACC player to earn the Jerry West Award. The Hall of Fame point guard award has already gone to three Tar Heels (Raymond Felton in 2005, Ty Lawson in 2009, and Kendall Marshall in 2012), but Davis is once again in a class of his own.
In Chapel Hill, it was unquestionably RJ Davis’s year as the senior guard stunned the college basketball world. While guiding the UNC basketball team to another ACC regular season championship and a trip to the Sweet 16, Davis elevated his game to a completely new level.
Davis was chosen as the ACC Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-American this season.the Year, an ACC Player of the Week nominee four times, and a finalist for national player-of-the-year awards. His 784 points were the highest point total by a guard in UNC basketball history as well as the fourth-most in a single season.
After the show’s overall 2022–2023 season was unsuccessful, Davis went back to Chapel Hill to rewrite the story. He succeeded in creating a season that would go down in history and be remembered for a long time.
When Davis’s basketball career at UNC officially ends (he can still play one more season if he wants to), his No. 4 jersey will be the first of its kind to hang in the Dean Smith Center rafters. Since Tar Heel supporters will be talking about Davis’ senior season for a while, it will serve as a nice reminder of what he was able to accomplish as a Tar Heel.
