REPORT: New York Giants Have Multiple Opportunities To Trade Down From #6 Pick , Could Forgo Shot At Elite Quarterback
At this point, it does not feel like the football community has a unified take on the state of the New York Giants.
The New York Giants Lacking A Clear Identity Moving Forward
On the one hand, they have some undeniably excellent cornerstones; a highly regarded, well-liked and offensive mastermind head coach, a formidable left tackle in Andrew Thomas, and a defensive line that can run with the NFL’s best.
A weak secondary and an on-paper mediocre linebacking corps had many holes transiently filled by the genius of now-departed defensive coordinator, Don “Wink” Martindale, will now need to figure out how to step up without the Martindale touch; especially if Bobby Okereke turns back into his pre-Giants, non All-Pro caliber former self.
Offensively, the disaster class is blatantly apparent: a receiving corps that, as of now can only be described as the league’s worst, and an offensive line that, outside of Thomas, is filled with unproven talent and hit-or-miss free agent types.
And we haven’t even mentioned the quarterback yet.
What Does The Future Look Like For The New York Giants At Quarterback
The New York Giants have already spoken publicly concerning the possibilities of taking a quarterback in this upcoming NFL draft, where they hold the 6th overall pick in a stacked QB class.
Even so, reports have been mixed, from borderline ringing endorsements of current controversial starter, Daniel Jones, to speculation that the Giants may well target one of the elite signal callers in the early first round of next Thursday’s draft.
Regardless, much of the New York seems to some extent torn between taking advantage of strong draft position and a deep quarterback class, and addressing the many fixable areas of the team as a whole before inducting a fresh pair of gloves into the fold.
And there are still those who believe in the oft criticized Daniel Jones, who, since signing a lucrative 4 year, $160 million deal last offseason, has fell far short of the financial commitment made to him.
It seems now as if the Giants have even more to think about, as the front office has reportedly received many offers from NFL teams surrounding potential draft trades, per Ari Meirov.
