The New York Giants may need help at the tight end position and one of the tight ends that will be drafted this year is Texas Longhorns Ja’Tavion Sanders. Sanders may not be a first-round pick but can be a second-round pick. He is the second-best tight end in this year’s draft class behind Brock Bowers of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Sanders on Texas this past season caught 45 passes for 682 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 15.2 yards per reception. He was a junior this past season and is 6’4″ and weighs 243 lbs.
According to nfldraftbuzz.com, some of the strengths of Ja’Tavion Sanders are as follows:
“Excellent open-field blocker takes effective angles and shows strength against secondary defenders, super reliable receiver potential outstanding high pointer, and exhibits great deep speed and agility as a route runner.”
“Encounters difficulty when facing collegiate edge defenders at the line, less suited for traditional tight-end blocking roles that require consistent in-line play, and had little experience as a blocker and in limited action has underperformed as a pass blocker, and is only average in the run game.”
The New York Giants Could Very Well Draft Ja’Tavion Sanders In the Second Round of the 2024 NFL Draft
The Giants can draft a tight end in the 2024 NFL Draft because Darren Waller has not committed to playing in the NFL next season. It feels as if Waller will not return but who knows. Daniel Bellinger for now would be New York’s starting tight end next season if Darren Waller did not return.
Ja’Tavion Sanders could have more upside at the position than Bellinger. New York only has one second-round pick instead of two second-round selections after they traded one of them to the Carolina Panthers in the Brian Burns deal and that pick is 39th overall.
The New York Giants own the 47th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and this could be a spot where they select Sanders. If general manager Joe Schoen uses the sixth overall pick say on Malik Nabers, a wide receiver from the LSU Tigers, and also adds Ja’Tavion Sanders from the Texas Longhorns, that would be a huge boost to the Giants’ offensive weapons in a hurry for this football team.
