FIFA action demanded as Southampton v Everton image emerges

American commentator Dave Johnson has called out FIFA after Beto saw his goal disallowed for Everton in the 1-0 loss against Southampton.

The 26-year-old thought he had come to the Blues’ rescue on Saturday [2 November] for the second consecutive match, only for VAR officials Matt Donohue and Neil Davies to overrule the on-field decision after a lengthy check at St Mary’s.

However, Johnson – who commentates on NBA in the United States – took to his X account following the final whistle to share footage of the lines drawn for the offside check, and said he believes Everton supporters should be furious with the delayed process.

Sean Dyche and Everton are back to square one

Football supporters can sit around all day and berate VAR and how it has negatively impacted the sport, but despite the process taking far too long on Saturday, the decision to rule Beto offside was correct regardless of Everton appeals.

Sean Dyche has surrendered his five-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League to a side who headed into the contest without a win in nine outings.

Furthermore, the Blues were lucky to end the match with 11 players still on the pitch after James Tarkowski’s “poor” challenge on Cameron Archer was only deemed a yellow card offence and escaped VAR intervention.

Everton should have arrived on the South Coast brimming with confidence and ready to produce a resounding display to climb further up the Premier League table. However, the club is right back where they started, two points above the relegation zone.

All the hard work Dyche has put in to repair his relationship with the supporters has dissipated and the 53-year-old will now have to begin all over again, with next week’s clash against West Ham taking on added importance.

This is a bleak result for the Toffees, who felt they had turned a corner after a terrible start to the campaign. The only glimmer of hope is they travel to a club in more turmoil next weekend.
