Happy Birthday to OU Women’s Basketball Coach Jennie Baranczyk: A Look Back at Her Career So Far
Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk is celebrating her 42nd birthday today, February 22. As she reflects on another year of success, it’s a perfect time to take a look back at her impressive career and journey to becoming the head coach of the Sooners.
Baranczyk, who has made a remarkable impact in college basketball, began her career as a coach after an accomplished playing career. She spent nine seasons at Drake University before being named the head coach at Oklahoma on April 10, 2021. She took over the program from the legendary Sherri Coale, who retired after 25 years at the helm of the Sooners.
During her time at Drake, Baranczyk built a powerhouse program. She led the Bulldogs to multiple NCAA tournament appearances and secured several Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) berths. Her success at Drake set the stage for her transition to one of the premier programs in women’s college basketball.
Since taking over at Oklahoma, Baranczyk has quickly made her mark. In her first two seasons (2022 and 2023), the Sooners reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, proving her ability to lead at the highest level. Under her guidance, the team has developed a strong, competitive identity that has raised the bar for Oklahoma women’s basketball.
