Huntsville murder: Pair jailed for double murder after debt dispute…..
A one-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a Huntsville man late Tuesday night on FM 247 just past the city limits. The victim, who was driving a dark gray Nissan Maxima, has been identified as Andres Elmer Mejia Jr., 30. A 30-year-old Huntsville man was killed Tuesday when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree on FM 247.
Andres Elmer Mejia Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene after his car was discovered in a group of trees of FM 247 just outside the city limits around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Corporal Doug Masters with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the exact time of the accident had not been determined.
“The vehicle was cold when we arrived, so it happened sometime last night,” Masters said. “The driver was alone, and he was dead when we got to the scene.”
Investigators are not sure what caused the accident. Mejia was heading north on FM 247 in a dark gray Nissan Maxima and left the roadway just past the entrance to Cowboy Country. The vehicle crossed the south-bound lane before hitting a tree on the passenger side about 10 yards off the road.
“At this time we are not sure what caused the victim to leave the roadway,” Masters said. “We did not see any visible signs that alcohol was involved. The only thing we could smell was gas leaking from the vehicle. We are still conducting the investigation.”
Drunk driver causes wreck
Deborah Cook, 20, was arrested early Wednesday morning for driving while intoxicated after causing a three-vehicle accident in the intersection of Interstate 45 feeder road and Montgomery Road.
Cook, a student from Florida, was placed under arrest after failing a sobriety test, which showed her blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit. She was detained after Huntsville police were dispatched to a call about an accident shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday.
According to reports, Cook was driving a 1999 GMC Jimmy truck and failed to control her speed. She struck the back end of a car at the intersection and caused a pile up. One person was treated for injuries.
