Malcolm Marx and Cheslin Kolbe starred in Japan’s League One while Hanro Liebenberg crossed for two tries in the English Premiership.

Cheslin Kolbe got the better of Bok teammate Kwagga Smith as Suntory Sungoliath defeated Shizuoka Blue Revs 22-17, with Kolbe scoring for Sungoliath. Sanele Nohamba played off the Shizuoka bench.

Malcolm Marx scored his fifth try of the season for Kubota Spears in their 33-5 win over Mitsubishi Dynaboars. Joining Marx in the Spears matchday squad were Ruan Botha, Rikus Pretorius, Merwe Olivier and Tyler Paul, while Friedle Olivier made his Dynaboars debut.

Damian de Allende was the lone Saffa on the park for Saitama Wild Knights in their 54-26 win over Urayasu D-Rocks, while Honda Heat trio Matthys Basson, Janko Swanepoel and Dawid Kellerman went down in a heavy 59-21 defeat to Toshiba Brave Lupus.

Jesse Kriel’s Yokohama Canon Eagles were beaten 29-17 at home to Toyota Verblitz, and Willie Potgieter came on in the second half for Kobelco Kobe Steelers in the 27-24 win over Black Rams in Tokyo.

Former Sharks hooker Dan Jooste was a second-half replacement for Pau in their 55-10 drubbing at the hands of Toulouse, while James Hall featured for Perpignan in a 20-20 draw with Vannes.

Springboks Jan Serfontein and Cobus Reinach featured for Montpellier in a 38-32 win over Stade Francais, with Jeremy Ward crossing the whitewash for the Parisians.

Bayonne defeated Lyon 28-14, with Uzair Cassiem and Pieter Scholtz involved for Bayonne, and Dillyn Leyds played fullback for La Rochelle in their 33-19 away defeat to Clermont.

Rohan Janse van Rensburg scored a late try for Bordeaux but it was not enough to prevent their 36-31 defeat to Racing 92 in Paris. Lee-Marvin Mazibuko turned out for Racing alongside Hacjivah Dayimani.

Bok lock Jean Kleyn made his return from injury off the bench for Munster in their 30-24 away win over fellow Irish side Connacht, while loosehead Boan Venter was a second-half replacement in Edinburgh’s 38-5 drubbing of the Dragons.

JP du Preez and Henco Venter started in the Glasgow side that thumped the Lions 42-0.

Marnus van der Merwe and Jarrod Taylor helped the Scarlets beat Ospreys 38-22 in a Welsh derby. Evardi Boshoff started at centre for Ospreys, with Tom Botha coming on as a second-half replacement.

Benetton fullback Rhyno Smith got the better of compatriot Johan Mulder in the Italians’ narrow 20-19 win over Cardiff to keep them in the top 8.

Thomas du Toit, Francois van Wyk and Jaco Coetzee were part of Bath’s bomb squad in a convincing 47-28 win over Harlequins at the Rec, with Van Wyk crossing the whitewash for his side. Irne Hebst and captain Stephan Lewies manned the Quins second row, with Tyrone Green at fullback. Jordan Els came off the bench late on for Quins.

Hanro Liebenberg crossed for two tries and Handre Pollard kicked seven points for Leicester Tigers but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 29-22 home defeat against a Saracens side that included Ivan van Zyl.

Four of Sale’s Saffa contingent were involved in their 27-24 win over champions Northampton. In the pack JL du Preez and Ernst van Rhyn started, with Hyron Andrews coming on as a replacement, and Rob du Preez continued at centre. For Northampton, Burger Odendaal started opposite Du Preez and Juarno Augustus came off the bench.

Former Stormers loosehead Kwenzo Blose was in the Exeter Chiefs side that scored a late 17-15 win over Newcastle Falcons in a basement clash. Lock Seb de Chaves was involved for the Falcons.

Gloucester loose forward Ruan Ackermann helped his Gloucester side to a huge 53-28 win over Benhard Janse van Rensburg’s Bristol Bears.
