Michael Carrick wants to raid Leeds United and sign Charlie Cresswell next month, after initially offering a move for him in January – when Cresswell struggled to get game time at Elland Road.Cresswell, 21, has only managed to make the team once in the last eight league games.
In the other seven, he was not even called. He only started once all season, and that was in the league.Cresswell was linked with Boro in January 2023.
The Sun reported that Boro were considering a £4million transfer for the England U21 star, part of the England squad that won the European U21 Championships. But he remained on loan at Millwall that month.
Indeed, when he returned to Leeds in the summer, he signed a new contract and it was expected that he would play a key role in the 23-24 season. But Leeds signed Joe Rodon.
With Pascal Struijk on the left of defense and Liam Cooper first in reserve, Cresswell is now fourth choice. It’s difficult for him to join the group. Middles brough could offer him a way out.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon channel that Middlesbrough were looking for a centre-back and that Cresswell was a name on their list. Another is Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall.
Nixon reports that Cresswell is having a “frustrating” season. He is desperate to play but Leeds may not be willing to help a promotion rival.
A team that Leeds overtook to win 3-2 on Saturday. However, Boro and Leeds clearly have some sort of relationship – both sides have agreed a loan deal for Sam Greenwood.
The latter is on fire for Boro and Cresswell will certainly be tempted to join him.
