New NRLW signing: Broncos bring Joseph back to Brisbane Brisbane-born forward and Jillaroo Keilee Joseph are returning home.
The Broncos have signed the 21-year-old, a two-time NRLW, Indigenous All Star and Queensland Maroon runner-up rower of the year, on a two-year deal from 2024.
Joseph will head north after spending two seasons and making 12 appearances for the Sydney Roosters, including the team’s Premiership victory over the Dragons during the postponed 2021 season.
A former Queensland Under-19 captain, the former Marsden and Mabel Park State High School product, also made her Origin debut this year and was named Player of the Match on her debut during Game 1. She played at side and was coached by Broncos captain Ali Brigginshaw.
Joseph averaged 105 rushing meters and recorded 271 tackles at an efficiency of 95.4 in 2023, leading both the offensive and defensive attack in Brisbane’s lineup.
“After seeing how well the Broncos did last year and what they put in place, the style of football and the culture, I just wanted to be a part of it,” Joseph said.
“Princey (Scott Prince) and the Broncos took my partner and I out for a chat and everything they talked about made me want to move. “The opportunity to reunite with my family, to whom I am very close, is wonderful.
“They’re pretty excited, although dad is a Penrith fan so I don’t know if he’ll wear the colours, but they’re just happy to have me at home.”
“It’s been a pretty crazy year, playing for the first Origin and then getting called up to the Jillaroos squad. I haven’t had much time to think until now.
“Ali (Brigginshaw) has been a great support and mentor, and I’ve learned a lot playing with her in the Queensland team, so I’m looking forward to trying it all in Brisbane, they’ve got great experience.”
Broncos NRLW head coach Scott Prince said: “This is great news for the Brisbane Broncos, bringing someone of Keilee’s caliber to the club, as one of the competition’s young superstars.
She “she has proven that she can step up when it counts and has seized every opportunity that has come her way.
She won a Major League title and played for her state, her country and her legacy and now that she comes to play for her hometown, there’s nothing more special of her like this.
Joseph won’t make the full move to Brisbane until the NRLW pre-season, but he will be a regular face in Queensland, playing for the Souths Logan Magpies in the BMD Premiership.
