Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings shares ‘tough’ injury insight in heartfelt video
Tyrone Mings has posted a video on social media offering Aston Villa supporters an insight into his recovery.
The defender has been sidelined with a long-term injury since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament in the opening day defeat to Newcastle back in August. Unlikely to feature again this season, Mings will be posting a series of clips from his recovery.
He added a voice-over at the beginning of the compilation saying: “After the first video of giving you a little glimpse into what I’ve been up to, this video is a little introduction to the first two weeks after surgery. Everything entails from coming to terms with injury, hopefully I will share a little bit of light into the reality of what it looks like from surgery.

5 hours after the injury, I just got home and I’m in a lot of pain. I know from being here before, a few years ago, some days are bad, some days you feel positive, some days you feel sorry for yourself. Then the injury was confirmed it was a long-term one, ACL. Originally I thought it was an ACL injury alone but I’ve done a few extra things and without going into details, there’s a little cartilage damage as well
“It’s a really tough one to wake up to after surgery. I was in excruciating pain, cannot put any weight on my knee, it’s a marathon, not a sprint – it’s just going to take a little longer. A couple of weeks after surgery were up and down, a couple of times I was ill. I think one of the things that people always take into consideration is the lack of independence being on crutches. As someone who is very active, having to rely on people is a tough situation to be in.
