Vicario hits back at Wilson as feud intensifies after Spurs beat Newcastle
The Spurs goalkeeper has responded after the England striker accused him of disrespect during heated scenes
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson continued their argument off the field following Spurs’ Premier League victory on Sunday.
There was heated argument between the two players towards the end of Tottenham’s impressive 4-1 home win, with Vicario appearing to make faces at Wilson after parrying a weak header from the England striker.
Such antics visibly angered Wilson, who in his post-match interview with Sky Sports accused Vicario of showing a “lack of respect” and compared it to the incident in which his United teammate Three Lions’ Jordan Pickford found himself in an angry incident with Newcastle players.
Following Everton’s 3-0 win at Goodison Park on Thursday evening. “There’s a way to win, isn’t there,” he said. “I think we saw it the week Everton won and Pickford was messing around.
“The goalkeeper [Vicario] starts making faces and joking about his head and it’s just disrespectful, I thought, but I said my word. We are grown men and we move on thing.
Vicario then cited Wilson’s Sky Sports interview with a post on his Instagram Stories that read: “Respect is given…to anyone who respects me!”Sunday’s victory was crucial for Tottenham, who bounced back from a recent alarming slump with their first league victory since October 27 thanks to a brace from a resurgent Richarlison and additional efforts from captain Heung-min Son Start went back to fifth place after an injury scare in Thursday’s home derby defeat to London rivals West Ham – and Destiny Udogie, who started the defeat with her first Spurs goal.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had started a new era in fantastic fashion before an injury crisis and dismal run saw them set an unwanted record by becoming the first Premier League team to take the lead in five consecutive games and to win, no one could win.
Vicario has played a crucial role for Tottenham since his £17.2 million move from Serie A club Empoli in June, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s best goalkeepers following the death of former long-serving captain Hugo Lloris.
