The Cleveland Browns are 8-5 and 6-1 at home this season. It’s pretty crazy to think when you look at how much they’ve struggled with injuries this season.
However, their defense has been so frivolous and dominant that it seems like they have a chance to win every game, even if there are losses.It goes without saying that a lot of it has to do with the stellar play of Myles Garrett.
Jim Schwartz helped Garrett take his game to a whole new level, putting together the best season of his career and making him the clear favorite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. That became clear once again Sunday during the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to PFF CLE Browns, Garrett was the highest-graded defender (92.0) in the entire league in Week 14, with seven pressures, three quarterback hits and a 30.6% pass-rush win rate.
Garrett hasn’t been at his full strength in a while, but he’s been able to overcome his shoulder injury and be as dominant as ever every week.It’s a shame the league isn’t even considering defensemen for the MVP award, as Garrett should be one of the clearest candidates.
The MVP has become an award exclusive to the QB, excluding players like Garrett even though he is clearly one of the best and most valuable players on the planet.
Simply put, the Browns couldn’t have even come close to winning if Garrett hadn’t wreaked havoc at the line of scrimmage this season, and he’s leading the team to the playoffs.
