The Philadelphia Eagles ran into trouble Monday night in the opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
It had nothing to do with quarter back Jalen Hurts, whose status was considered questionable before the game and who flew to Seattle separately from his teammates due to illness.
But Hurts was in the starting lineup. He was another former Alabama standout who had to leave the game. And it’s another former Crimson Tide who came into play.
After the fifth snap of the game, Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson ran off the field with his mask barely clinging to his helmet.
Rookie Tyler Steen took Dickerson’s place on Philadelphia’s offensive line while the starter’s equipment was repaired. When the Eagles finished the 15-play, 75-yard drive with a touchdown, Dickerson was back in the lineup.
Hurts hardly looked ill on the opening series as he completed all five passes, starting the possession with a 13-yard run and ending it with a 3-yard run to the end zone.
With 13 rushing touchdowns this season, Hurts has the second-most rushing touchdowns in a season in NFL history, matching his total from last season.
Former Auburn All-American Cam Newton set the NFL single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 14 for the Carolina Panthers in 2011.
Alabama is a late addition to the 2024 recruiting class

This will be the new normal as the hiring cycle is ever-changing, but there are still opportunities to make decisions. The Alabama Crimson Tide secured one of their Monday nights in Jayshawn Ross.
Ross, a four-star athlete, announced on social media Monday night that he would commit to the Alabama Crimson Tide to become the 22nd member of the Tide’s 2024 class.
The 6-foot, 220-pound athlete from Liberty North High School in Kansas City, Missouri, is considered the No. 6 player in the state of Missouri and the No. 21 overall prospect in the class.
He made his official visit to Tuscaloosa for the LSU game last season and was chased primarily by Freddie Roach and Coleman Hutzler. Ross chose Tide over offers from Kansas State, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
Alabama remains fourth overall according to 247Sports, but Ross’ commitment puts them third in the 247Sports rankings, which also calculates other recruiting rankings.
The Crimson Tide still has a few prospects they are keeping an eye on as the 2024 cycle comes to a close. Alabama would like to add some running backs and flip a defensive lineman if possible.
