VJ Edgecombe, the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2024 class, has cut his list to a final three schools: Baylor, Duke and Kentucky.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard out of Glen Head (NY) Long Island Lutheran was previously down to ten including Alabama, Baylor, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, St. John’s, UConn and the G League Ignite.
The five-star prospect has taken five officials, including an official to each of his finalists.
He spoke with 247Sports to discuss why Baylor, Duke and Kentucky made the final cut.
Baylor: “Baylor made it because Baylor is a great school, great program, a winning culture, they have a great resume and history behind it. They produce guys, great coaching staff over there. Everyone was welcoming so that is definitely why Baylor made the cut.”
Duke: “Duke is Duke. It’s a great school, coach Scheyer is a great coach and they have a great staff over there. They’re bought in. They got great players going there and they produce a lot. We all know the history behind Duke.”
Kentucky: “Kentucky made the cut, even though they were late, because coach Calipari has been going hard. He gave me his reason why he started recruiting me a little later which was very understandable. He produces a lot of guards.”
Edgecombe has been taking his time and doing his homework on his suitors over the last few months and as he heads into the final stretch, he shared what it is that will be the deciding factor for him.
“I feel like where I would fit best going in as a freshman, where I play a lot and the relationship with the coaching staff, for sure,” he said. “That is definitely probably the most important thing for me – I would say that the relationship with the coaching staff will be the deciding factor for me.”
