BBC pundit says Postecoglou was furious with call £22m Tottenham man made vs Man Unite
Despite failing to win against Manchester United today, Ange Postecoglou will be pleased with several aspects of Tottenham Hotspurs’ showing.
Timo Werner looked promising on debut, he’s got so many unpolished attributes for Postecoglou to work with.
And perhaps the best of any Spurs performance was that of Rodrigo Bentancur.
The £22m Uruguayan dominated in the middle, and finished superbly to get Tottenham level shortly after half time.
However, there was one moment against United that left Postecoglou slightly disappointed with the Tottenham man.
Bentancur showed a rare moment of petulance in the first half when kicking the ball away once the whistle had already gone – something you won’t get away with in this era.
And as well as being disappointed with the referee’s decision to book Bentancur, Postecoglou also seemed frustrated with his midfielder.
Clinton Morrison explained the situation when covering the game for the BBC.
Initially thinking Bentancur was unlucky to be booked, the pundit quickly changed his mind.
Watching Postecoglou on the touchline, Morrison said: “And Ange is not happy, he’s shaking his head, he knows.
“So I’m in the Ange camp, I don’t think he deserves to get booked. I actually think, oh no, he knows what he’s doing, let’s move on.”
Of course, it’s only a very minor blip on Bentancur’s display, who was otherwise pretty flawless.
And with James Maddison’s return now right around the corner, Spurs fans do have a lot to be excited about.
Although there were elements to improve against United, Postecoglou will be pleased with his Tottenham side once again.
And in particular, he’ll probably see a lot of promise in Timo Werner’s debut.
The German looked lively on the left, and still has a lot of raw attributes that can honed.
As well as noticing his blistering pace, he thought the new forward could be crucial moving forward.
