Cameron Delaney, a former AFL defender who worked with the North Melbourne Kang aroos and Geelong Cats, has decided to move leagues while playing for a new team.
He was selected in the 2010 national draft and spent three years at North Melbourne between 2012 and 2014, refereeing six matches for the top team.
When he was released from the club, it was clear that the Kang aroos would select him again in that year’s rookie draft, but Delaney would experience a surprising turn of events.
One selection before the Kangaroos came for him, he was poached by the Geelong Cats. However, a move to the Cats wouldn’t work out for the former defender turned forward, as he left the team without playing two seasons later.
After spending seven years with the Grovedale Tigers in the Geelong Football Netball competition – and scoring 135 goals in 89 games – Delaney decided to move to the Bellarine Football League and sign with Dysdale Football Club.
As confirmed by the Hawks, Delaney will join his brother Tim Delaney and former Geelong Cats teammate Tom Ruggles at the club. Ruggles, 31, spent two seasons with the Cats after being selected in the 2016 Rookie Draft.
The defenseman played 22 games for Cattery and would be cut at the end of the 2017 season.“Drysdale Football Club would like to welcome Cam Delaney to our club!,” the club wrote on social media. “
