Monchi has made it clear he is relentless in his mission to help Unai Emery re-establish Aston Villa as a force in the Premier League and Europe.
He has already made a huge impact at Villa Park since arriving at the club almost eight months ago, in June last year, as president of football operations. He has negotiated some key transfers in his first two windows at Villa, notably clinching deals for the likes of Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby last summer and Morgan Rogers in January.
The Spaniard looks to have taken a brief break since the January transfer window closed to attend the Carnival de Cadiz. But speaking to Diario de Cadiz, Monchi said it was a brief visit ahead of Villa’s FA Cup fourth round replay against Chelsea on Wednesday night and that he will quickly be back to work with “a lot of work pending”.
“We play on Wednesday and there is a lot of work pending but come on, if everything goes as I hope, I will return on Carnival Monday, which is a day that I really like to party,” he said.
“But in Birmingham I’m fine, happy as a sports director, trying to plan Aston Villa, a historic club in England, right now fighting at the top of the table and working hard.”
