The New York Yankees have already improved the club this offseason, but another signing could make a lot of sense. New York’s biggest gap on the roster entering this offseason was the outfield and starting rotation.
The Yankees significantly improved the outfield by bringing in Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.
The Yankees also addressed the rotation by bringing in Marcus Stroman in free agency. While that is the case, New York might need another pitcher.
The Yankees have been linked to Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell, but it would be surprising if New York was willing to spend the money necessary to land them. However, New York could still improve the starting rotation. There are some very solid mid-range options with potential that could make sense.
One player who wouldn’t cost much but could do a lot to help New York is former Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. He is a free agent and he is always looking for his next opportunity.
He only appeared in 11 games for the Blue Jays last season, but was solid with a 3.46 ERA and a 38-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio.Ryu is a one-time All-Star and has a career ERA of 3.27 in 10 seasons.
If the Yankees want to add to the rotation, Ryu would immediately increase the club’s space. He’s not flashy, but he’s been very reliable on the mound.He’s 36 years old and won’t cost too much.
