‘Tottenham ready to sell Richarlison at a huge loss’
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected at the club, insisted that the money from his departure could be reinvested into a new signing this month.
As a result, Tottenham have turned their attention towards signing a new forward before the window closes on 3 February.
If Richarlison is now allowed to leave, there is a feeling that he will need replacing to keep the strength in depth in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani had been heavily linked with the mood after the French giants made him available, but he looks set for a move to Juventus.
Instead, Spurs will move on to other targets in the closing stages of the window as a priority, particularly following Dominic Solanke’s latest injury blow.
Now, Robinson has echoed those claims, but warned the club against letting him go before the transfer deadline as he could still play an important role for the rest of the season.
“Maybe they’re linked to so many other forwards because they’re going to let Richarlison go,” he told Football Insider.
“I think they’re obviously going to have to take a huge loss on the £50million they paid for him, because they’re not going to get that money back.
“But the money they do make could go back into the squad.
“I’d like to see him stay. I like what he does and I like what he brings with his attitude and application.
“His versatility has probably cost him in terms of rotation because it’s easy to take him in and out.
“There’s no reason for them to let him go, and you can see what playing for any club he plays for means to him.
“He’s one of those players you love as a home fan and every away fan hates him. He’s good to have on your side and he’s good to have in the trenches.”
